The White River Bass Masters (WRBM) conducted the 5th tournament of the 2012 season at Brookville Reservoir in Brookville, IN, on Sunday, July 1. Reports from club members that practiced indicated the bite was alive and well and the field was pretty excited going into the tournament. However, with a heat-wave for the ages and some bad luck the field struggled to bring keepers to the scales. The talk at the scales was all about the numbers of keepers that got away and the rumor of one big smallmouth bass. Rick Goodyear picked up his first win of the season by weighing in one smallmouth that also took Big Bass at 3.85 lbs. Rick and his co-angler Cory Drake (fifth place) found a large school of feeding smallies that had bait-fish pinned in a pocket and were willing to hit topwater baits. However, according to the Rick and Cory these smallies weren’t willing to stay hooked. They weren’t the only ones however. Numerous reports of lost fish were talked about during the weigh-in. Matt Drew took second place with 2 keepers weighing 3.47 lb’s. Kip Miller took 3rd place with 2 keepers resulting in 3.46 lbs. Kip’s bag was actually big enough to win the tournament but unfortunately he encountered a dead-fish penalty that pushed him down to 3rd place. Rounding out the top 5 were Bob Foxworthy with 2 bass weighing 2.96 lbs. and Cory Drake with 1 bass that went 2.08 lbs. WRBM’s next event will be on Sunday, August 5th, at Cataract/Cagles Mill Lake near Cloverdale, IN.
