The White River Bass Masters (WRBM) kicked off the 2014 regular season at Geist Reservoir in Fishers, IN, on Sunday, April 30, 2014. With winter still lurking, the field launched to temperatures in the high 20’s and endured cold conditions and blue-bird skies for most of the day. The warmer air finally won over and the afternoon warmed up into the 50’s and warmed the water temperature up a couple of degrees throughout the day. Coming into the event the belief was there would be several big bags cross the stage. However the long and brutal winter has had some effect on the normally strong late-March pre-spawn bite that Geist kicks out annually.

Only one angler was able to put together a five fish limit and a very respectable Geist Lake sack of fish. The reigning 2013 WRBM Angler of the Year, Josh McDermott, continued to show his dominance by weighing in 5 bass that went 17.59 pounds. That sack was more than enough to give Josh the win by almost doubling the weight brought in by 2nd place. Cory Drake took 2nd place honors with 3 bass that weighed 8.91 pounds. Coming in 3rd place with 1 bass was Trey Green. Trey’s 1 bass was not only good enough for third place but also good enough to claim the big bass of the tournament weighing in at 6.22 pounds. Rounding out the top 5 were Tim Cooper with 2 bass weighing 6.16 pounds and Jared Schwedler with 1 bass weighing in at 4.79 pounds. WRBM will be at it again on May 4th at Lake Shafer in Monticello, IN.
